Symbol Labels

Labels

Symbol labels display instance names and parameters on a schematic. Revolution EDA supports ordinary annotation labels, Natural Language Parameter (NLP) labels for instance values, and Python labels computed by PDK callbacks. A label can display a value without defining a typed parameter; see Symbol Parameters for the separate paramDefs mechanism.

Natural Language Parameter labels

The symbol editor’s createNLPLabel method parses labels in these forms:

  • [@name:format:default] — parameter, display format, and default value.
  • [@name] — name-only label; reserved names such as [@instName] and [@cellName] resolve from the instance.

For example, [@width:W=%:W=10u] can display W=10u until the instance’s width value changes. The % in the format is replaced with the actual value. The parsed components are the parameter name, rendered text, and current value. Malformed labels do not produce a usable value.

A value-carrying NLP label named @name (or a legacy bare name label) can be linked to a typed paramDefs declaration. Normal labels and derived Python labels remain read-only in instance forms.

See Symbol Editor for creating and editing labels, and Symbol Parameters for typed fields in placement and instance properties.
